Hi all, anyone use 278 (4mm) clips instead of the non-existent 328 (7mm) clips to locate the Lab seal on a 1970's TZ? The depth of groove is approximately 3.5mm so there would be about 0.5mm for interference. Lab seals do not touch the crank so there would be no more than lateral crankcase pressure working against the seal. the 4mm 278 clips are currently available from Yamaha, but...
Most all of the parts books seem to be wrong - imagine that; they show the 278 as the center clip(s), and the 328 as the outer bearing locator clips, even in the current YMUS parts manual.

Thanks,
Warren

That would be a good alternative - they are quite simple and likely would not require hardening since the loads are light.
I've always had a good supply of both dimension clips, but the number of the obsolete 7mm is dwindling, and to default to the 4mm clip (still available) would be most convenient.
