We run VM30's on the RD350 race bike we campaign in the 6hr kart track endurance race we do every year.

GRA2strokes Garrett tuned the topend (porting, o-ring skimmed heads, etc) and it runs stronger than any other RD I've ridden. Especially in the midrange which is everything on a short kart track.

Usually, but in this case, yes, it was to secure the oil fittings.

These are what you need for the cables.  Without them, the oil pump cable from the splitter is either too tight, or too loose (can't remember which) and isn't able to be adjusted properly. Also gets the cables headed in the right direction toward the front of the bike.

A few years ago, I did genuine KX80 PWK28's off Partzilla on my LC. They were $115 each, but are up around $200 each now, I think.

They fit right in to the stock manifolds, but UPP flat back urethane manis are way better if you're using VForce reeds, etc.

I used the stock throttle cable(s) with angled top adjusters off eBay to get the cable length right, especially at the oil pump.  Oil bung fittings were off eBay also, and I installed them in the top boss next to the choke plunger.

I'll look for a link to the adjusters.

I agree. Running well when cold but hollow when hot generally describes a lean condition.

Wrap some blue tape around the filter and see if it runs better or worse.

Quote from: RDryan on February 18, 2026, 10:04:35 AMA KTM300 engine, that's cool. I sorta like that better than a banshee engine. Or a CR125 like they did. Only cause I had a lot of ideas about terrorizing my local roads with a hopefully street legal dirt bike supermotoe'd. I know KTM has those grey area titles for the XCW's and those willing to convert to their state street title blah, blah BS. Also those XCW's do have the lighting coil you would need and electric start, also pretty light even as a dirtbike...I think. Now I did also read the newer fuel injected ones kinda suck, but.. with my limited facilities, tools and funds this just seems easier and maybe the best end product of enjoyment, a better balanced machine made for an adult sized person to whip properly around their riding venues.

That Grom is certainly a dream machine. It's funny because with the right stuff I can see what you did and why you did it Mark...with yours. I think this custom one is so over the top and of course I like it but I really like yours better.

As an aside,I hardly ever see a reasonably priced liquid cooled two stroke bike engine for sale at what I consider an affordable price. I do see from time to time folks will sell for example a cr250 engine with the carb and ignition but it's up there at about $3-4k asking price and that to me is pricey. Could be a 500cc or 250cc sometimes it's a KX model or something of the like. I dunno just seems like you gotta have all the right stuff to make a Grom two stroke swap work realistically cheap if that makes sense?

Sorry to thread drift a bit but a fella's gotta dream.Just living in two smoker envy.Consider it my today's contribution to forum scuttle butt.

I have a street legal (fuel-injected)'23 300xcw TPI. I just got a set of supermoto wheels for it, too.

It does not suck.

As I understand it, you want the higher levels of ZDDP on any non-roller cam valvetrain.

Yup. I use high ZDDP Valvoline VR-1 in my Porsche, although Rotella has adequate levels of zinc too.

I think general concesnsus is they were cheap, lightweight and loud.

My money's on the Toomey's.

Motul 710 or BRP XPS 2T in the injector tank
Shell Rotella T4, T5 or T6 in the gearbox

I used to use T4 for everything, but now I have more modern bikes and mostly use T6.

Those are the "large can" version.

They came in an xtra loud "small can" version too.

Made in England and quite rare here.

Great job out there.

I have a feeling most guys on this forum wouldn't ride their 2T bikes this kind of distance.

In my younger days (like 15-20yrs ago), I rode my TZR/TDR on 1000mi long weekends out to eastern Oregon every year.  I never found it too physically uncomfortable, but filling gas every opportunity possible, and worrying about a seizure all day (etc) was really mentally fatiguing.

A few years ago, I worked with EE on my RD350LC. Great guy, and few know more about Yamaha twins than Ed.

That's Martin Johnson.

He made the pipes on my TDR, and is one of the nicest, most helpful fellas you'll ever meet.
